A friend on facebook inspired me to look up websites that teach you to be frugal when grocery shopping. I used these ideas and I saved some moola at Price Chopper. My order was originally $34.30, I only paid $16.45 and actually saved $17.85 which was more than I spent. I bought with these 16 dollars: 5 boxes of cereal, two bottles of detergent and 5lbs. of carrots. I always buy lots of cereal, bought the kind of detergent I use anyway, and was going to buy carrots for crock potting....I'm pretty psyched. Granted, Price Chopper is always overpriced to begin with so I will only shop the sales if they are worthy and match coupons to the sales...I was pretty happy. I like sales, but I've never attempted to shop so strategically. The way I have begun to shop in the past couple weeks, my freezer is full of meet, pantry is full, etc but I've gotten great prices....I think I could get addicted to this!
P.S. Hannaford is having a 125th anniversary sale this week. A bunch of things are $1.25 this week. Check the website or their flier and stock up!

an apology
for any of you who read my last blog, i sincerely hope i didn't offend you. i realize i made some strong statements. i admit this election has made me very uneasy about who will soon take office in our country. i want the country my children to grow up in to be the same if not better than the country i grew up in. from the looks of it it's not doing so well. it is obvious that after 8 years of pres. bush our country needs change. i just don't think that the change the very, eloquent sen. obama has in store is what we need as a country. of course this is only my opinion. on the flip side, i'm not sure mccain has what we need either. again this is my opinion.
you see i've seen people in our country say: 'i'm voting obama, he seems "cool". I haven't really paid attention to any of his policies though...' people are going to vote and they aren't even sure why they've chosen who they are voting for....the place i find myself in is that, i've had other people say to me "there are third party candidates???" "who's ron paul?" and "we can write people in?" people have told me "i haven't paid attention to this election, who should i vote for....?", etc...i sincerely do not in anyway think that any of my readers are ignorant of their own values and beliefs or their own political stances. i know you are all very intelligent people. please don't think my post was meant to belittle you or any of your beliefs in this election.
i guess my feeling was that in our society there is so much communication being done via the internet that, if anyone felt like me and wanted to start a chain reaction to tell people to research their options outside what the liberal media has bombarded us with, it could be an easy way to make some sort of difference....
of course we must also pray for this country and the future path it takes. i can't find my comfort in our gov't that is for sure, i do know that God is in control...forgive me for anything that may have offended you with my last post. i hope you go out and vote and vote whoever you believe will do a good job for this country, whether i agree with you or not, i do want you to vote and i respect your choice. if your conscience is to vote obama or mccain i will still respect you :) that is the beauty of our country, we have the freedom to our own opinion and the freedom to vote. please vote, and please forgive me if the last post offended you.

Do you want to vote but don't like the "two" candidates?
Because I live in New York and it will be swept by Democrat electoral votes, I have decided to vote my conscience this year. I don't really believe there is a lesser of two evils between Obama and McCain, they both have socialist agendas for a country that was once built to be a Republic. I will not vote McCain with any false notion that somehow this state will vote McCain in the electoral votes. It is a democratic state. It will vote democratic. I do not support McCain, so why vote for a man I do not agree with? Even though that's the American way. That is what we are led by our media to think, we think we must vote for one of two candidates or the lesser of two evils.
I am using my vote this year to say that I am tired of the unconstitutional agenda of both the Democratic and Republican parties. I was originally going to vote for Dr. Ron Paul (an OB/GYN who has delivered 4,000 babies) who ran in the primary as a republican to try to get on that ballot, but his stance is constitutionalist and/or liberitarian. Unfortunately he will not be on the ballot. He has endorsed a man who is a minister from Florida that is on the Constitutionalist party ticket and that man is Dr. Chuck Baldwin.
Back to Dr. Ron Paul, he is a congressman from Tx with an impeccable history of voting "no" for bills/legislation that are unconstitutional (Washington is not a big fan of him for this reason). His mission continues though at www.campaignforliberty.com Ron Paul is still on a mission to help us save this downward spiraling country's government policies, please check him out. He wants to dismantle the (non-governmental but big banker run) Federal Reserve and stop letting them make money out of thin air that isn't backed by anything. He wants to abolish the federal income tax, close and secure our borders, get us out of this unconstitutionally waged war, etc. Ask yourself why we are on the other side of the world to protect ourselves from terrorists, our National Guard is now in Iraq, and our borders are deliberately wide open....? How's that for tax dollars funding "homeland security"?
Back to Chuck Baldwin...him winning may be a stretch of the imagination obviously, but if you are looking for a way to vote your conscience, you may agree with what he has to say http://www.jbs.org/index.php/about/jbs-50th-anniversary . If you took the time to watch any of the debates, please take the time to watch this in it's entirety. There is also a Ron Paul speech on this same page. Dr. Baldwin's is 42 minutes long but worth watching and thinking about his message for the future of this country. If you agree with him and want to vote your conscience knowing your state will vote democrat, consider Dr. Baldwin. I'm being redundant I know sorry.
Knowing my state votes Democratic, I do this to send a message to my leaders that I am tired of them not protecting "We the People" and the Constitution that they swore an oath to protect and abide by. I'm not voting for him because he's a Christian, I am voting for him because he is a Constitutionalist. In his speech he even states that he would rather vote for a non-Christian who would uphold the Constitution and protect our religious freedoms, etc. than vote for someone who claims to be a Christian and does not protect our Constitutional rights including our religious freedoms. I don't think Obama or McCain fit either of those descriptions anyway.
In closing, I find it sad that in the USA there is even a need for a Constitutionalist party, but I acknowledge it is necessary, knowing how far the Republicans and Democrats have strayed from it.

A Time Honored tradition we hold...
Don't you love when you make a friend that feels like an instant part of your family? For me that has been Kiersten from the very beginning of my brother's introduction of her to us. At first though, like many females, we had to size each other up...you know the "who- is- this- other- woman- territorial-ness." Would she break my brother's heart? Would I interfere with their relationship? You know how we women can get...
Once we got over that, we became very close, very quickly...somehow it's like I am an extension of my brother to her, she is like an extension of my bro to me, my bro is like an extension of....whatever. We have this intertwined friendship, but not too intertwined...that would be weird ;) We both adore my brother as crazy and exuberant as he may be at times. Maybe that's actually why we love him...
Kiersten is a very sentimental, "lets make everything special" kinda girl. Our first fall knowing her we went apple picking. I was pregnant with Cailen. We made an entire day of it, we set out to MAKE MEMORIES together. We made pies, went to Thatcher Park, did the hay ride/got pumpkins at the Pumpkin Patch, etc...Sadly, since they've both started school it's been harder to make the whole day of it, but for the last three years we've at least gotten to go apple picking together. Kris was FINALLY able to join us this year. Somehow he was always working when we went before :(
Anyway, I love this tradition. I hope to someday soon be able to claim Kiersten as my own family member. She is such a wonderful, giving, caring person and friend. She already treats everyone in my family (including my babies) as her own family. I love her so much and I am so thankful that God has allowed her to spend these last 2 and a half years with us. Here's us on our new traditional apple pick of this season. Good times. :)
Kiersten, if you are reading this at work, you better not cry or they will find you out!! I love you my friend. You are very, very special to me and my whole family. These last couple of years would be drastically different without you. I hope to keep you as part of my family in the future. :)
